Current Volunteer Positions Available

Research Assistant Position

We currently have a vacancy for a volunteer Research Assistant position for 6 months. The position will commence in mid-September 2017. The position is a part-time (2 days per week) for 6 months and is most suitable to those located in Northern New South Wales/South East Queensland with your own transport.The Research Assistant will have a key role in contributing to the major research programs of Dolphin Research Australia and will work directly with the lead researcher. Duties include field survey support, data entry, analysis, processing photo-identification data, assisting to prepare reports, education materials, general administration. The position is open to those that are either enrolled or have completed a Bachelor of Marine Science, Environmental Science, Zoology or equivalent. The candidate must be reliable, passionate and available for the duration of the 6 month position. Previous experience in a similar position is an advantage, however, not a requirement.

Northern Rivers Dolphin Watch Volunteers

All dolphin and ocean lovers can now join in and help assist with the research by becoming part of the Northern Rivers Dolphin Watchers and help increase the understanding of the ecology of dolphins and assist in protecting populations that live in our own backyard. The Northern Rivers Dolphin Watchers will take part in a series of dolphin population surveys to be

conducted along the coastline at observation points between Byron Bay and Ballina. Each for three Saturdays each month, Dolphin Watchers will meet at a land observation station and complete six hour surveys, to observe and record the numbers, behaviour and movements of dolphins. Become a Citizen Scientist

Can’t join us in the field or with the Northern Rivers Dolphin Watchers? How about becoming one of our wonderful citizen scientists with our Dolphin Sighting Network program. Simply report your dolphin sightings to us (via email or our online sighting report form). Every sighting report is useful to us and is added to our database.You sighting reports provide valuable information that assists us to monitor the health and wellbeing of individuals and populations, as well as population abundance, habitat use and so much more!

All-Round Administration & Team Helpers

We often need lots of assistance in the office and with our market stall. All-round helpers can assist with general administration duties, some data processing, development of education materials and helping with our community engagement programs. Our all-round helpers will generally be expected to assist for a minimum of 4hrs per week (although this can vary at times). If you are interested in being one of our wonderful all-round helpers please send us an email.

Field Volunteering & Eco-Volunteering

Join the Research Team as an Eco-Volunteer

Our Eco-volunteers have a very important role during our field surveys. For each of our research projects, we offer placements for Eco-volunteers to assist in our vessel-based surveys to collect behavioural, communication and identification information. As an Eco-volunteer you’ll not only be a financial supporter of this critical research project, but also an active contributor as a field team member during our Expeditions. Our Eco-volunteer programs provide unique and provides an authentic, participatory experience for those that have a passion for the ocean, to learn and actively contribute in research that will aid in expanding the knowledge and conservation of coastal dolphin species.

Join our 2018 Moreton Bay Dolphin Research Eco-Volunteer Team

Eco-volunteer program is back for 2018! We currently have positions available on all of our expeditions. However, places are limited, so get in quick and reserve your spot. Please note there is a cost associated with this position. Check out our Eco-Volunteer page for more information HERE.

Research Student Positions – Honours or Research Masters

We currently have numerous student research projects available. Please enquire with us an we will send you further information.

Please note that there is a small cost associated with research student positions. Students must also organise their own internal supervisors.

All research projects are based in South East Queensland or Northern New South Wales, Australia.

Marketing & Promotion Coordinator

The volunteer Marketing Coordinator is responsible for assisting to promote the organisations vision and mission statement through developing and implementing marketing and advertising strategies and campaigns; tracking sales and marketing data; maintaining relevant databases and records and preparing reports.

Graphic Artists & Designers

Are you are graphic designer who would love to help a great organisation and promote marine conservation initiatives?  We are in need of a talented person to help us with some of our education and research projects.  If you would like to help to increase awareness and conservation initiatives and volunteer with us as a graphic designer or artists, please contact us directly for further details info(at)dolphinresearchaustralia.com.

Filmmakers

The voluntary Filmmaker is responsible for assisting to promote the organisations vision and mission statement through developing short films of the organisations projects, activities and fundraising appeals. The filmmaker will primarily assist in the editing and production of short films using existing and where necessary assisting to acquire additional footage. The filmmaker will assist in writing scripts for the short and promotional films for web-based marketing, fundraising and education initiatives of the organization. The filmmaker will also assist in producing short videos of the organisations ‘Dolphin Diaries’ series.
