Calling all ocean lovers, beach walkers, boaters and coastal communities!
On Saturday 30th May 2026, we’re coming together for the first NSW Dolphin Census — a statewide citizen science event to help map where dolphins are found along our stunning coastline, bays and estuaries.
This event is delivered in partnership with the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service.
Dolphins are deeply valued in NSW, but there are still major knowledge gaps about their distribution, habitat use and conservation status. Your observations on Census Day will help fill these gaps and support evidence-based marine conservation.
Training Workshops – Late April to May
Free online and in-person training workshops will be offered across NSW to help you learn:
- how to identify dolphin species
- how to record sightings
- how to take part safely and confidently
Early Registrations Now Open!
Secure your spot and be part of this statewide effort to protect NSW dolphins.
Let’s come together to create a powerful snapshot of dolphins across NSW — and help protect them for the future. 💙🌊
The NSW Dolphin Census is a collaborative program between Dolphin Research Australia and NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service
