Description
We are very proud to present this special issue which is all about the powerful and graceful Orcas or Killer Whales.
In this issue we celebrate these incredible animals. We take a look at the relationship between humankind and Orcas from cooperative hunting with Danielle Clode, to captivity with Howard Garrett, and how citizen science is helping to uncover some of the mysteries of orcas in Australia with David Donnelly. We speak with photographer Matt Draper about what it’s like to come eye-to-eye with an Orca. We reflect on recent research that highlights the dark side of the human-orca relationship with the impacts from modernised human activities creating a devastating legacy and leaving these powerful animals vulnerable and in decline.
Our Crafting for the Earth feature this issue shows you one example of just how easy this can be with how to make your own produce bags. Isabela Keski-Frantti tells how successful conservation efforts can be when different stakeholders and groups work together, in the case study of New Zealand’s White Flippered Penguins. We also take a look at the fascinating world of Octopus with Mia Gustavsson.
I hope you enjoy take a moment to relax and enjoy a great read!
