Description
This is a high quality print of the original artwork entitled ‘Mahmi Bowe’ in watercolour using seawater by artist and ecologist Dr Liz Hawkins.
This piece is a celebration of the return of the humpback whales as they migrate along the East Coast of Australia. This piece is titled ‘Mahmi Bowe Jingi Walla’, which is Bundjalung meaning Welcome Mother Whale. This piece is not only a celebration of new life, but also a reflection of the vulnerability of life. It is a long and dangerous journey along the migratory route for these whales as they try to avoid potential direct threats from natural predators and those caused by human activities including fishing gear, boat strikes and pollution. To create this work, I used watercolour with elements of saltwater collected from the Great Barrier Reef, the ultimate destination for many of our mothers in the East Coast humpback whale population.
Printed on high quality certified sustainable linen card with soy inks from carbon offset printer. Packaged in a compostable clear package and recycled envelope for protection.
