This is a high quality print of the original artwork entitled ‘Butterfly Greeting’ in watercolour using seawater by artist and ecologist Dr Liz Hawkins.
A ‘Butterfly Greeting’ in water colour was painted using seawater collected from North Stradbroke Island. It represents a special meeting between a southern right whale and a pod of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins. Inspired by one of the most memorable moments of my time working with these animals, when I observed this greeting from the air with the BBC film crew whilst shooting Planet Earth. During this type of greeting, the dolphins and whales meet head-to-head and spin in a spiral pattern. It’s as if they are celebrating each other’s company with a kind of ceremony.
Printed on high quality certified sustainable linen card with soy inks from carbon offset printer. Packaged in a compostable clear package and recycled envelope for protection.
